This workshop explores the extraordinary picture-making capacity of voice and language and how a sense for composition, use of rhythm and syntax build meaning. Designed to help interpreters, environmental educators and public presenters infuse their speaking and writing with an alive and unforgettable quality. Foundations of storytelling, plus study of effective writers and poets will be interwoven with work on participants' material. Activities will reveal the hidden power of language to create moods, imagery and dramatic effect__ leading to more effective word choices. Eurythmic movement will be used to help participants move in language __ discovering what makes language moving. Additionally, participants will learn to enrich and project their voice, engage the power of breath as well as find character variety for their voice__ and apply these qualities to their spoken work.
Participants should bring to the workshop a personal anecdote and a piece of interpretive writing or oral presentation which they would like to develop or refine for public presentation.
